Spain's investor "Golden Visa" — which since 2013 granted residency to non-EU nationals buying property worth at least €500,000 — closed to new applicants on 3 April 2025 under a law aimed at easing housing pressure in cities such as Madrid and Barcelona. Roughly 22,000 such visas were issued over the program's life. Existing holders keep their status and renewal rights, and foreigners can still buy property in Spain, just without the automatic residency.
