A new track gives former Indonesian citizens and their descendants a lifetime residency option with lighter requirements.

In early 2026 Indonesia introduced the Global Citizen of Indonesia (GCI) program alongside its Golden Visa, aimed at members of the diaspora who took another nationality but keep close ties to the country. Compared with the investment-heavy Golden Visa, GCI sets a lighter income test — around US$1,500 a month — and offers a lifetime residency permit with a self-reporting check every five years. It is designed to draw skills and capital back from Indonesians living abroad.
