On 17 July 2025 the European Commission confirmed that ETIAS, the EU's pre-travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, will cost €20 — nearly triple the €7 set when the system was first designed in 2018. The Commission cited inflation, the system's expanded scope and alignment with comparable programs abroad. Travelers under 18 or over 70 are exempt from the fee but still need an approved authorisation, which will be valid for up to three years.
